Thing # 23

I have thoroughly enjoyed working on these 23 things, I have learned so much. I will continue to update my computer and internet skills from now on and try to stay up on all the new technology out there, especially on the web. This course was not only educational, but alot of fun too, so, if anyone is on the fence about this course, just try it, its alot of work, but its very rewarding when you reach the end.

Thing # 15

After reading over some of the discussions regarding Library 2.0, I truly believe we can give our patrons everything they need, with correct and concise use of the web, if we're trained properly to use the web for all the new technology out there, then we can pass this along to our patrons. If we constantly update and re-evaluate our collections and services we better serve all of our patrons needs. We need to continually build our collections, not only books, dvds, audiobooks, etc., but our computer resources should be up to date at all times. We can give the patron everything they want and need during this age of technology.

Thing # 22

Found the Project Gutenberg to be a very interesting website with downloadable audiobooks. The titles available here, I may never read, but its nice to have a source to check out. As for, the NetLibrary, I'm looking forward to receiving my MP3 player after completeing this course, and I will definitely be downloading audiobooks from NetLibrary in the coming months.

Library #16

I checked out the Book Lovers Wiki, thought it was very helpful reading the reviews posted about the books. I found Wiki's to be a collaborative effort among groups of people, particularly library staff to work together and share ideas and edit files regarding a vast array of subjects. Wiki's would be very helpful through out all library functions.

Thing #18

Registered for an account with Google documents today, and worked with some documents, seems to work much like Microsoft Word and Word Perfect. Its nice to know this is available when I'm out and about and not using my home computer.

Thing # 19

Checked out some sites from the short list of awards, like: ARCAPLAY, ZILLOW and FARECAST. I had a lot of fun with the Arcaplay site, trying out some games, and I thought the Farecast site was interesting with travel fare predictions, but I didn't have a lot of luck with the Zillow real estate site.

I posted my blog in the Maryland Libraries Sandbox Wiki.

Thing #14

Registered for Technorati and saved a favorite blog. There seems to be quite a few blogs found when using their search engine. Probably need to explore this site more, before really using it everyday.

Thing #13

Registered on Del.icio.us and learned how tags work with blog posts.

Thing # 11

Last week I used Library Thing to track my favorite books and forgot to blog about it, so here I am today blogging, Library Thing is a very useful site for me, no longer will I have bits of paper everywhere with names of my favorite books on them. I will track my books on this site from now on. Loved this site!

Things # 9

Checked out Merlin today and subscribed to their feed. I find the news feeds pretty interesting and very easy to find with the RSS icons. I may use them in the future.

Thing # 8

I went into Bloglines today and set up my account for my RSS feeds. This is an interesting site to keep track of all of my news and other sites. I added Boing Boing, National Geographic News, The Shifted Librarian and NYT Book Review, to my Bloglines account.

Thing # 6

Had alot of fun working with flickr and mashups, I thought the trading cards were really cool! I also uploaded some photos to flickr today!

Thing # 7

I really had fun working with the Image Generators, they were really cool. I showed my nephew in Hawaii (Cody), yes, I did work on 23 things while in Hawaii, how to use the the Airplane image generator, since he loves planes. We enjoyed bringing up all kinds of different images.

Thing # 2

Each and everyday I am constantly learning new things at work and at home. I never thought that I was so computer illiterate until I started my 23 things. This is such a new learning experience for me, and I will definitely continue to keep up with all new computer technology in the future.
